Pros
- Boosts your daily productivity by eliminating distraction.
- Works just like the Messenger found on the mobile.
- Support available for both Windows and the Mac
Cons
- The app for the Mac doesn't yet include support for notifications and badges.
Ever wished you could get Facebook messages delivered straight to your desktop? In the last summer, Facebook has made this possible, and it did the same for both the laptop and the desktop when it released, "Messenger.com." Now, instead of having to access Facebook through the web and facing distractions when you have important business, you can use the Facebook at Desktop software, which has proven an incredible productivity booster for a lot of people who find the News Feed of the site distracting. You also don't have to worry about getting lost in the oblivion of the endless updates from your friends and family.
Great Supplement to IM or Email
The new system should prove valuable to anyone who wants a supplemental choice to their email or instant messaging because this system works great. Once you have logged into Facebook through Messenger.com, you will see what looks like the ever-familiar interface of the site. In fact, the design mimics what you saw with the messenger mobile app. It includes a three-column layout, and when you look to the left, you can see the conversations and the setting buttons where you can compose new messages. Through the middle column, you can also view your current or select a conversation you want to view. You will also see the people who are included within the conversation. For example, if it were a group chat, you might notice several names in it.
The Settings
Through the settings you can disable the notifications as needed, and you can take out the sounds. If you want to compose a message with fun emojis to liven up the conversation, you can add them, photos, stickers and even a thumbs-up to display your approval. Basically, it works just like what you might receive with the Messenger mobile app of Facebook. Through the settings, you might also choose to disable your sounds and notifications. You can also compose a message as you have time for it. It's a lot like the Messenger app found with smartphones.
How It Works for the Mac
Don't feel like tying up your browser tab with Messenger? Even for the Mac, you now have an app. Believe it or not, this isn't actually a Facebook app, but it was developed as an open-source project for the fans of Messenger who didn't like how Facebook could get in the way of daily living. One of the features for users is access through the menu bar, but you do have two features missing from the Mac like badges and notifications. However, the developer has said that these two new features should eventually make their way to the new app.

Facebook at Desktop, also called Facebook @ Desktop, lets you keep an eye on what your friends and family do on Facebook without checking the site multiple times every day.
As the leading social network site in the world today, Facebook comes loaded with features that users, like yourself, utilize often. You can upload a single photo or dozens of photos at the same time, create albums from those images, and tag your friends in those pictures. Facebook also gives you the option of uploading videos, changing your status to let friends know what's on your mind, and sending messages to those on or off your friends list. Unless you check back every hour, you might miss out on some breaking news or a big announcement that a friend made, but that's where Facebook at Desktop works for you. With it, you'll be able to keep an eye on Facebook while doing other things on your computer.
This app functions like a miniature version of the full site. You must log in with your user details and remain logged in to continue getting updates. It lets you pick the format or design of the page which changes the way you view your information. You can keep the app running all day long at the bottom of your screen and still see updates as they happen.
Facebook at Desktop enables you to track top stories that are happening right now, or you can simply view your news feed. Your news feed will only show breaking stories or ones that the app thinks you will want to see. It offers you the ability to change the settings in order to view content relating to specific people or groups you belong to. It also gives you full access to all of your Facebook games as well. You can click on the app to bring it up and then view a live version of Facebook.
Though Facebook at Desktop is functional for some, it won't replace your phone. As long as you're logged into Facebook on your phone, you can view the same info that this app provides. It also has a tendency to use lot of power, which can drain your battery. It may also take longer than you would like for the app to connect to Facebook. Each time you log in and out, you'll notice that it takes 60 seconds or longer to load the app. However, if you try Facebook at Desktop once, you may end up finding it very useful.
